1. Individual students not face-to-face in the main classroom

Our provision for :

  • individually isolating students who are at home while the rest of their class is at school.
  • students ill at home
  • students in Inclusion/the LINK/SEMH base

This is our hybrid learning model (in-person and online).

All students who:

  • are self-isolating, and not ill,
  • at home unwell but well enough to be online
  • students in Inclusion/Apex/the LINK/SEMH base

are expected to participate in every lesson, advisory session where a link exists and GER session and complete all work set. Our curriculum for these students is in line with what they would receive if they were in the classroom. From day one of a student being at home they will have access to our full curriculum online.  For those in school, where advance notice is given, students complete work in physical booklets which the teacher then check/mark.

An interactive electronic version of the class booklet for all subjects is available to students in their Subject Google Classrooms. Students join the live lesson taking place in school over a Google Meet, through the link in their Google Classroom. They can participate in the lesson through the chat and complete the same work in their e-booklet.

Class teachers will take a register based on the students who are in the Google Meet and engaging in the work. Any students who are not present or not engaging will be contacted by their year manager for isolation and relevant staff dependent on where students are based. The year manager can then offer support if it is needed for students at home and staff in school will support those in alternative bases. Work completed in the Google Meet will be checked and marked by the teacher and feedback will be given either in Google Classroom or in real time in the Google Meet.

2. Isolating class bubbles (in case of a return to this procedure)

Our provision for isolating class bubbles.

The student user experience is very similar to the hybrid model above. The teacher will teach the lesson in their regular classroom but fully online. As the lesson is fully online the teacher can use a range of edtech tools for delivery and assessment, that wouldn’t be possible in a hybrid situation.

The lesson structure will follow this format (subjects to adapt for their own needs):

Flowchart illustrating a 65-minute remote lesson structure divided into four phases: 10-minute retrieval quiz, 15-minute direct instruction and hinge questions, 25-minute independent work with live teacher monitoring, and 15-minute review and feedback session.

3. In the instance of a full closure (due to buildings/ environmental /energy/ school isolating / national lockdown)

For our provision for full school isolating / national lockdown, see Section 2 above.

4. Homework

Please see the Homework policy. The only amendment where students would not be physically in school would see revision strategy move online. This is to allow staff to monitor and use the student work to inform lessons.

5. SEND Provision

Students with SEND are supported by our dedicated team, through regular contact with parents and carers.

Students have full access to the Read & Write tools which transforms the accessibility of all Google for Education tools.

6. Access support

We provide any student that does not have a home computer or laptop a chromebook. It is essential that students do not use phones or tablets as the nature of these devices means that a full day of online learning with all the features is not possible or desirable.

We also provide access to 4G internet for students without reliable home WIFI internet.
